Patterned floor tiles have exploded in popularity in the last year. We can now mimic the look of expensive (and hard to maintain) cement or brick tiles, with mosaics in every possible shape, size, and color. With so many choices and such a bold floor, choosing where and how to use patterned tile can seem overwhelming. However, there are a few tried and true spaces where patterned tiles always look great, and may be the perfect way for you to incorporate them in your new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Powder Baths<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powder or pool baths are a fantastic spot to utilize a patterned floor. These are often small spaces, so using a bold tile gives it a sense of style and fun, rather than overpowering the room. For a pool bath, tones of blue give a nod to the water, and pair nicely with a subway tile in the shower. The Fiore Collection<\/a> has geometrics and floral-inspired patterns to work in any style. A half bath with no shower gives you even more freedom to experiment. For a vintage or farmhouse look, consider a penny round or mini hexagon floor<\/a>. Matte finishes add a modern twist to a classic pattern and contrast nicely with the glossier finish on the pedestal sink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laundry Rooms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The laundry room is a great space to have some fun. It’s not a room that’s normally seen by guests, so it doesn’t need to be as formal. A bright and unexpected design can make doing laundry a little less of a chore. Since the laundry is a larger space than a half bath, consider using a bigger pattern for more punch. The Form Collection<\/a> has plenty of these to choose from, in shades of black, blue, tan, and gray. The Lotus or Clover patterns are perfect for a farmhouse laundry room, and the Diamond makes an amazing floor for a more modern style. It also has large-format hexagon floors in both solid and bordered colors, which give the laundry both an element of design and texture. Pantry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most people don’t think of the pantry as part of the design style of the house, but it’s another small space that is perfect for an unexpected floor. Choose a pattern and color that complements the style of the kitchen and the main floor to keep the flow. It’s small touches in surprising places that really make a home feel custom and well designed. Hexagon floors in either large or small sizes coordinate well with almost any style due to their solid colors. For a concrete-look tile like the Form or Fiore, pick a pattern that matches the scale of the pantry. A brick look tile like Havana<\/a> or Chicago<\/a> is also a great choice for a pantry and mudroom area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you think through the design of your new home, find small spaces where you can incorporate an unexpected design twist. Patterned tiles are a fun way to do just that.
